NOL — Narrative of Layers is a boutique interior design project by Deform Creative Studio, created for a compact Airbnb apartment in Dubai.
The concept focuses on how small spaces can feel intentional and elevated through thoughtful zoning, warm wood tones, and curated textures. Instead of following the expected Japandi aesthetic, we developed a layered narrative approach where every material, color shift, and furniture placement contributes to a calm, cohesive living experience.
Designed to maximize comfort and function for short-term guests, the apartment transitions smoothly between living, dining, and resting zones. Soft lines, a warm neutral palette, and a single accent chair introduce contrast without visual noise.
NOL represents our studio’s approach to conscious design: refined, purpose-driven, and grounded in atmosphere rather than trends.
ECLETIC LIVING
At its core, Narrative of Layers is also an exploration of how thoughtful details shape the emotional experience of a space. Every decision, from the placement of the built-ins to the direction of the wood grain, was made to support a sense of ease and visual clarity. Storage is integrated discreetly to maintain openness, while lighting is layered to shift the mood between day and night without overwhelming the compact footprint. The apartment’s layout encourages natural movement, guiding guests intuitively from one zone to the next. By balancing functionality with a quiet, curated palette, NOL demonstrates how even the smallest apartments can feel elevated, personal, and deeply considered.
The project also reflects our commitment to designing spaces that feel lived in and intuitive rather than overly styled. Every element is chosen to enhance comfort, clarity and flow, allowing the apartment to function effortlessly for guests while maintaining a refined and expressive atmosphere.
